Serendipity - Shared Ideas
By definition serendipity means:  "the gift of making fortunate discoveries by accident ".  I'd like to share some of my personal discoveries.  Some I've learned from family or friends or even complete strangers.  Some I've discovered through my own trial & error.  Savor those sweet, simple moments that happen on even an ordinary day.

Reuse
Mason jars-I just love these-especially that fabulous aqua blue. I use them as vases with my blue Hydrangeas & white field daisies.  I use them to store my bulk herbs, beans, rice - anything I need to see at a glance that I use often.  I use
those vintage style metal rim tags tied with raffia to easily identify ingredients.
Use filled with an inch of sand & votive as outdoor luminaries for parties.
In my cottage/beachy bath I love the aqua jars with their lids to hold cotton balls,
Q-tips & guest soaps.

Repurpose
We who treasure antiques & vintage items have always been "green".
We can see the hidden potential in that scrap of lace or beautiful fabric.
That it survived for all those years means someone else must have
treasured it too!
I recently came across a collection of miss-matched finials & handles that
once topped elegant silver serving pieces.  I was just so taken with their
beauty - I had to buy them.  One heavy piece I use as a paperweight on my
desk.  One tops a vintage wooden box to add a dash of glamour.  Some of the larger pieces are perfect to use as napkin rings.

Recycle
Whenever I buy new linens, I save the zipper plastic bags they come in.  I use them to organize loose things like glue sticks, tea lights, bits of ribbon & lace that might otherwise get lost.

Recycle

Don’t throw out those wine bottles!

Cleanse thoroughly & use to make your herb vinegars.*  Decant large cans of olive oil for easier handling.  Mix fragrant oil for dipping crusty bread.  Use a clean cork available at most hardware or craft stores.

I like to use the empty bottles-especially the cobalt blue ones on my tables as centerpieces for outdoor parties.  They look great with a single large bloom – especially a Dahlia, Hydrangea or Sunflower.  Tie with a raffia bow, embellish with charms, buttons or shells.  I found some stars & stripes ribbon at a local craft store for the 4th!  For a wine-tasting party I leave the labels on.
