Set of 3 Flow Blue Soup Plates
Set of 3 Flow Blue Soup Plates
C
. 1870 W. Copeland Flow Blue Soup Plates-offered is this lovely set of flow blue and gilt soup plates. They measure 8-1/2” in diameter and are 1-1/2” deep. One plate bears a printed garter mark while the other two bear impressed marks. From c.1867 onwards "& SONS" was added to the mark. Prior to this date just the name "COPELAND" was used. From 1890 onwards the name of SPODE was introduced to the marks. With and without the name COPELAND. I would date these plates to about 1870-1880’s. The printed garter mark dates 1867-1890. The design is various shades of blue with the deeper blue being predominate. Touches of gold accent the border and individual flowers. Some gold loss to intricate saw tooth edge. Plate one has some minor nicks to saw tooth edge-(can be felt rather than seen). Plate 3 has two shallow flea bites on underside of rim.
