Rare Ridgway Two-Color Transfer Plate
Rare Ridgway Two-Color Transfer Plate-Transferware, Two-Color, bi-color, Ridgway, Victorian Garden Gourmet
Rare Ridgway Two-Color Transfer Plate
RARE RIDGWAY TWO COLOR TRANSFERWARE PLATE-Villa-I seldom ever come across these two-color or bi-color plates and have never seen this particular color combination. This lovely plate is by John Ridgway and dates about mid 1800’s. The pattern name is Villa and it is green with brown transfer on an ivory ground. The plate measures 9-1/4” in diameter. It has a ½” hairline on the back which does not go through to the front, some staining and fine age crazing and a small fleabite off the outer rim of the border. It is marked J.R. Villa Stone Ware in a fancy cartouche with a bird on the back. I have had this same pattern once before in a canary/brown combination. A wonderful piece to add to any transferware collection. A good peroxide bath would clean this up nicely.
